---As
the Confederates advance from Bean’s Station, the lead division, under Micah
Jenkins, runs into at least a division of Federal infantry that advanced from
Rutledge, where Gen. Parke is with the Ninth Corps. Longstreet promises reinforcements, but is
unable to deliver. Martin’s Rebel
cavalry finally flanks the new Union line, and shells it with flanking
artillery fire, but Jenkins is unable to advance with just his brigade. Longstreet calls off the advance.
