---Gen. Sherman, marching his corps slowly and repairing
railroads and bridges and leaving garrisons as he has been ordered, receives an
urgent dispatch from Grant, ordering him to drop everything and “cross the
Tennessee, and hurry eastward with all possible dispatch toward Bridgeport,
till you meet further orders from me.”
