---Between
Alexandria and Shreveport, Louisiana, along the Red River, Richard Taylor, with
only about 7,000 troops, is preparing to fight a delaying retreat,

under Gen. Banks and Adm. Porter’s river flotilla. Taylor is arresting all Union sympathizers,
and impressing the rest into the army.
