Jan. 5, 1862: Jackson’s troops resume their advance to Bath (Berkeley Springs), and find Gen. Lander and his Federal troops have abandoned the town. Jackson pursues Lander to Hancock, Maryland, in spite of the onset of winter snowstorms over the next couple of weeks.
