---On this day, President and Mrs. Lincoln, accompanied by
their son Tad, and Attorney General Edward Bates and other officials, make an
official visit to Gen. Hooker’s headquarters with the Army of the Potomac. There is a grand review for the visitors.
---Gen. John McClernand, under Grant’s orders, moves with
his corps south along the west bank of the Mississippi to find a way to New
Carthage, Louisiana.
---The U.S Navy is preparing a large fleet, including 9
ironclads, for an assault on Charleston Harbor, South Carolina.
